20th June 2020

We all met on the same Kent farm with some bringing their terriers and friends, a photographer with others being the extra help to move items and clear areas .

In total, we eradicated 67 rats in just two hours. There were many we were unable to flush out from under concrete bases as they may have had nests deep underground. The majority of rats we had from an empty chicken building that had a purpose built brick scratch pit inside. There were no escape routes so every rat was easy picking. We turned all the earth over inside the pit with plenty of activity emerging from almost each shovel load.

Other rats found in the pig and goat sheds hiding under feeders and under the muck in the pens.

Photos available in the Gallery.

we plan further visits in the near future with both the guns and the dogs. I will also be setting up some homemade traps as there is huge activity in the loft areas of some farm buildings. There are too many escape roots to achieve any capture with the dogs. When some of team were in the lofts, the rats were running out of the roof area, into the gutters and running along to the end of the shed then down inside the drain pipes.

All the action photos during the dog meet were taken by Luke, so full credit to Luke for skills and time during the day. Some excellent photos.

UPDATE April 2021: Piper in the photo below sadly passed away from a brain Tumour. An excellent ratter and will be missed by all. RIP Piper.
